💛🔒🥭🌦️ Listening Guide

Hii piyaare! As promised, here’s a litte more on why i chose this songs for your playlist…

  1. Fall In – Esperanza Spalding
I first heard this song around the time I met you and it eased me so much when I was worrying about having too many feelings for you given how quick we were moving. Despite not knowing you that much and having so much distance between us I felt a connection that I wanted to honor and chose early to not worry and shutdown how I felt about you, and this song has always been a reminder that falling in love is cute and magical and will only enrich us.
  2. I Know You Know – Esperanza Spalding
This is the first song I heard by Esperanza Spalding back in Middle School and it informed my taste and playing immensely. Yes, musically it has set a great standard for me and she’s in my top 10 of artists who I love and have influenced me, but it’s here b2b with “Fall In” to contrast it with fun, flirt, and lightness because that’s how I feel with you: SIL and so light & silly.
  3. Climax – Slum Village
I actually don’t know if I stand by all the fun content from the verses but the general vibe is that I wanna worship you and make you climax so many times. This song is so sensual and the hook so fairy-like and smooth and catchy. Definitely takes the playlist to a more sexual arena, as you deserve. It was hot going with you to their show that was very OG.
  4. Como Fuego – Reyna Tropical
Such a beautiful song musically. Lyrics talks about how love is “como fuego”. The whole vibe feels good and is flirty and ethereal. Officially speaking, we met at Fabi’s show so it’s only appropriate to add this song here, plus I genuinely really really like her music and always associate it to you. I want to continue to make out and make love to you with her music for sure. Idk if she makes my top 10 music artists but definitely makes it to my top 10 fav Mexicans I know.
  5. Sonhos Cor de Rosa – Tiawa
I love you because of who you are, the lyrics are pretty straightforward. The song title means “Rose-Colored Dreams” and this is a very perfect blend of my Brazil world with the American Jazz-R&B touch.
  6. Poetry: How Does It Feel? – Akua Naru
I want to write so much poetry for you and recite it for you as I make love to you. This is a dope song and I want to get to this place with music and poetry, and my crush on you is giving me fuel to go for it.
  7. I Want To Talk About You – Ryo Fukui
Ryo Fukui is someone I feel incredible connected to musically-emotionally. He has a fascinating story about how he picked up the piano from scratch during or after college, and in just 5 years he released one of the best piano albums ever imho. A lot of feelings I have for you don’t fit into words, but if anyone can help me articulate some of them is Ryo.
  8. Dissolving Boundaries – Anoushka Shankar
If there’s a sweet spot between Ravi Shankar and Nora Jones it’s Anoushka, and she is so great. Her music reminds me of you because of mysticism and desihood but I added this because of the song title as well which resonates with how I like to live and love.
  9. Me Toca – Marina Sena
An actual siren, this girl shook my world musically and also with my sensuality, but lowkey she also contributed to big body and gender dismorphia after watching her in a show in Rio. She is one of the most fun and sensual and talented artist, she also on my top 10 artists tbh, highly recommend her whole discography. This song means “touch me”, and it’s super bouncy, flirty, catchy, provocative ugghhh she is such a badddaasss i love her so much, and I would make love to you with all her discography.
  10. Arrullo de Estrellas – Zoé
Zoé with its frontman León Larregui are definitely top 10 as well, and my favorite Mexican group. I love everything about the, and their music and UNESCO world heritage level of mystic lyricwriting about love. All their songs are worthy of being dedicated to you. The title means “Lull of Stars”.
  11. No Puedo Estar Sin Ti – Moenia
Moenia is very up there influencing my music as well. These Graceful-ass pioneers of Latin American Synth Pop are such a good vibe, very queer coded. Title means “I can’t be without you”, but I added this in a cute non toxically-dependent way.
  12. Imm El Jacket – Mashrou’ Leila
Song is titled “Girly with the Jeans” and it tells the story of the mistaking of a girl who is wearing jeans for a boy because arab girlies dont or shouldnt do boy things I guess. I add this cause you are my boi and i really love our gender euphoric dynamics. our queer love truly enriches, heals, and transforms me in ways that are so huge and it also makes me feel such at ease in exploring and flowing organically and existign as i am next to you.
  13. Lo Pasado, Pasado – José José
This guy is one of the best singers the latinxs have offered the world. Lots of his songs are kind of sad, but this one is not which I love cause I don’t connect with a lot of latinx debilitating heartbreak karaoke. “Lo Pasado, Pasado” means “What Passed, Passed” and while it alludes to a past hearbreak it talks about how he is in full love and happiness and asks the crowd to give an applause for this new love that has now arrived. And the applause sample is hillarious. Anyway, I like the huge-expansive singing he does and happy there’s a good vibes song I can dedicate to you, also Luis Miguel to a degree, but def Whitney Houston would be a champion on this arena.
  14. L’amour – Karim Ouellet
When I studied and lived and worked in France I did daily mega-intensive music listening and language learning sessions with people like Stromae, Maitre Gims, and Karim Ouellet –– Senegalese Canadian. Looking back all my influences were African french speakers. This whole album is so fun, catchy, and cute. This whole album is about love and trickstery and life’s journey. This song is about the dance between making love and war with your partner.
  15. Shooting Stars – Kelis
Pretty self explanatory. I didn’t really know Kelis like that before but this song suits how I feel for you so there you go.
  16. Never Too Much – Luther Vandross
Not tryn be corny but yeaaaah you get a Vandross for sure.
  17. Snooze – SZA
Sorry not sorry, I love SZA and she has been transformative and key in my musical and cultural development in this country, and like yeaaah she is bbgrl and so am i and yeaaah SIL that im dedicating a SZA hehe.
  18. El Reloj – Luis Miguel
Similarly to José José this mf is an OG with an incredible traumatic and heroic life story that inspired a whole netflix series. I really like him, this song “The Clock” is about how time passes so quick and he wants to slow or stop it so he doesn’t have to say bye to his lover just yet. Big feels everytime we are forced to separate.
  19. Zero – Liniker E Os Caramelows
Another of my favorite Brasilean artists, an incredible they/them poet and virtuoso. Love everything about their music and lyric choices. Honestly if groups don’t hit those two elements together is really hard for me to get into them…. but wow this song is such a beautiful love carnal poem and beautiful harmonic arrangement.
  20. Somos Dos – Bomba Estéreo
Bomba Estereo is dope, and this song is mega cute and catchy and good vibes, I like this theme for us to balance all the heavy ass deep ass mystical ass elements on our lives and relationship.
  21. Morena Mía – Girl Ultra
A sensual reprise of Miguel Bosé x Mariana Sariñana equally sensual song Morena Mía which means” My Brown/Black Woman”. A perfect lighthearted but sexyy end to this playlist.

Hope you enjoy, this is the first time I do a listening guide for a playlist. I had fun. ilysm ❤
