On Monday April 21st at 6:30pm in 3210 N Figueroa St. Los Angeles, CA we screened and discussed the following six films:

1) 🇸🇩 Gidam: Drums of protest in Khartoum (2021) Release Date: December 2021 Director(s): Arthur Larie & Bastien Massa Running Time: 11m “Gidam (All the Way) is a film by Arthur Larie and Bastien Massa. It follows a young woman who, like many other Sudanese, takes to the streets to demand the departure of the military government. 2) 🇭🇹 LAKAY (2024) Release Date: April 2024 Director(s): Amarise DeFranco Running Time: 4min “Animated short film by Amarise DeFranco. 3) 🇭🇹 Footsteps (2023) Release Date: August 2023 Director(s): Rachelle Savane Running Time: 7min “Jornadie, a Haitian young woman, is a soccer player in training who ambitiously waits for her favorite athlete and cousin, Esthericove Joseph, to take the world stage. She’s part of Haiti’s women league that’s playing in the World Cup for the 1st time in history. 4) 🇾🇪 Yemen: The Silent War (2018) Release Date: July 2018 Director(s): Sufian Abulohom Running Time: 11m “Since the war started in Yemen in early 2015, more than 3 million people have been internally displaced and around 180,000 have fled the country. 5) ⛰️Save Flat Top (2025) [Creators Attending] Release Date: April 2025 Director & Editor: Bia Jurema Producer & Story Editor: Sydney Wolstein Running Time: 11min “At the epicenter of gentrification, the Lincoln Heights community is at risk of losing Flat Top — their last piece of sacred, open, undeveloped land. Our beloved Flat Top is at risk of being taken from the Lincoln Heights community. On May 14th, the LA City Planning Commission will vote to approve or deny the proposed development.
